Fire destroys over 50 houses and shops in Daporijo

DAPORIJO, Aug 30: Over 50 houses and shops were reduced to ashes in a devastating fire which broke out around 9.30 AM at New Market, here on Wednesday, rendering 87 families homeless.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained and an investigation is currently on. Reportedly, properties worth over crores were lost in the incident.
Fire tenders along with police and paramilitary personnel reached the spot to evacuate the fire victims and help douse the fire, preventing it from spreading any further.
The authorities are presently assessing the total damage caused in the incident, while local MLA, Dikto Yekar and Chief Minister Pema Khandu have expressed deep grief and sorrow over the unfortunate incident.
The Chief Minister has directed the district administration to provide immediate relief materials to the victims while asking it to press all departments concerned to render logistics in the designated camps.
He assured the people and victims that the government will provide all support in their relief and rehabilitation.
Pema reiterated his appeal to the people to remain extremely cautious to avoid such mishaps.
Pema appreciated the district police, ITBP, CRPF, GREF and members of the market committee for lending help in relief and rescue operations.
Also assuring all possible assistance to the fire victims, MLA Yekar said that the market was one of the oldest and main commercial areas in the district which provided livelihood to hundreds.
Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy will not affect Arunachalees : BJP
ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Amid growing protests in Arunachal Pradesh against the recent decision by its cabinet to implement the Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy, 2014, the ruling BJP today said that the policy will not affect the indigenous population in any way.
"The Tibetans are not claiming any citizenship but staying in three settlements in the state in an organized way unlike the Chakma and Hajong refugees," state BJP president Tapir Gao said during an interaction with the media here.
He said, the state government has no separate policy on the Tibetans but is following the central policy which is mandatory as India was a signatory of the Geneva Agreement.
"The Rehabilitation Policy was framed during 1959 when the Dalai Lama fled Tibet and took political asylum in India. The policy which is being reviewed every 20 years is not an act so far. Since we respect human rights, we are obliged to follow the policy," he said.
Several organizations like All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union, Arunachal Citizen Rights, Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee and Peoples Party of Arunachal have protested against the decision of the state cabinet to implement the policy and demanded immediate its rollback.
The decision, they claimed, would badly affect the indigenous tribal population of the state especially in job and other facilities from state as well as central schemes.
As per the 2009 census, a total of 1,10,095Tibetans are present in the country and settled in 45 settlements in ten states. There are six settlements in Karnataka, one each in Maharashtra, Odisha and Chattisgarh, three in Arunachal Pradesh, two in Sikkim, two in West Bengal, four in Uttarakhand, 16 in Himachal Pradesh and nine in Jammu and Kashmir.
Gao informed that out of the 7,530 Tibetans settled in three settlements in Arunachal Pradesh, 935 have been rehabilitated in Canada last year.
"As per the Rehabilitation Policy, the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) conducts census of the Tibetan refugees every five years and submit report to the Centre as well as the respective state governments," Gao said.
He said the Centre found that the level of assistance and facilities extended by various state governments to the Tibetans were not uniform. The Rehabilitation Policy, 2014 was framed to provide anuniform guideline demarcating the facilities to be extended to the Tibetan refugees living within the jurisdiction of each state government.
As per the policy, the state government should necessarily sign a lease document for the land occupied by the Tibetans for a period of 20 years or till it is revoked or cancelled.
Moreover, Rent Tenancy Certificate should be issued by the respective state governments and land under their occupation should not be disturbed.
Gao said, the state government has been advised by the Centre to extend state government as well as central schemes such as MNREGS, PDS, NFSA, IAY, NRLM, RAY and NRHM, besides infrastructural facilities and basic amenities like roads, electrification, drinking water and medical facilities in and around the Tibetan settlements.

Pema lauds contributions of Christian missionaries in education sector
ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Chief Minister Pema Khandu on Wednesday lauded the Christian missionaries for playing a major role in contributing to the growth of education, especially in taking education to the poorest and the downtrodden in Arunachal.
He also appreciated the contribution of the RK Mission and the VKV in educational development of the state when there were no proper motorable roads in the state.
In his address to the Don Bosco College faculty members and the students at Jollang, the Chief Minister assured the support of the state government to all those institutes that had contributed towards strengthening of education in the state.
He also pledged his continued support to Don Bosco youth centre for its contribution towards skilling of youths in the state.

An operation to capture the suspects was launched based on input about the presence of underground cadres at Hotel Ranjit in Lower Market of Miao for the purpose of extortion.
Miao Police Station OC, Inspector R Khomrang, accompanied by L/SI Bharati Mingki, SI J Aran and other police personnel rushed to the spot and cordoned the suspected hotel.
Sensing the presence of police, the cadres reportedly tried to escape from the spot but were overpowered and apprehended thereof.
The team seized a sizeable amount of arms and ammunitions, which included a .22 mm pistol with magazine and six live rounds, a .32 mm pistol with magazine and three live rounds, 20 live rounds of a 7.62 mm, a dagger, cash amount of Rs 12,350 and two extortion notes.

The administration started the drive on August 24 last and as per the official deadline it was suppose to be completed on September 9 next. However, the eviction team comprising of EACs Tame Yajum, Hento Karga, Jiken Bomjen and Liken Koyu accomplished the task much ahead of the scheduled date.
Talking to this daily, EAC Itanagar Tame Yajum informed that the eviction team will carry out another round of inspection within the next two days from Chandranagar to Papu Hill to reassess the demolition drive.
She also added that the administration is trying to hand over the land to the Highway Department within the first week of September so that work can start at the earliest.
Further, she thanked denizens of the Capital Complex for wholeheartedly supporting the eviction drive for the greater cause of the state.
The capital administration destroyed several structures falling under the ROW during the drive. Barring few illegal encroachers, it is reported that a majority of building owners extended cooperation to the eviction team.
The administrative team was ably supported by team of officers from the departments of Highway, PHED, Power and personnel from BSNL and other communication sectors.
At least 120 IRBn personnel of cadre course, 60 IRBN personnel from refresher course of Police Training Centre Banderdewa, a platoon of commando force from Chimpu, female police and an eviction force of capital administration were also part of the team.

ANSU asks DA to remove electric poles
Yangte, Aug 30: The All NyishiStudents Union (ANSU) on Wednesday appealed to the authority concerned to remove the electric poles which are reportedly erected in a haphazard manner at the compound of the Government Secondary School, Yangte in Kra Daadi district.
During a visit to the school, a team of the ANSU, led by Vice President Tana Sushil Tara and AGS Charu Okam observed that there is a strong likelihood of a fatal accident if the problem is not fixed at the earliest.
The ANSU appealed to the PR leaders, school management committee and school staff to work together for the betterment of the school instead of indulging in petty politics.
The team also met Kra Daadi Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu and appealed to him to initiate construction of toilets, bathrooms and water tanks in the school.

AAPSU reiterates demand, calls for convening meet on TRP
ITANAGAR, Aug 30: Reiterating its demand to scrap the state cabinet's recent decision to implement the Centre's Tibetan Rehabilitation Policy (TRP) 2014 in Arunachal Pradesh, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) called for convening a meeting on the issue.

GAF alleges Pema govt of playing communal politics
ITANAGAR, Aug 30: The Green Arunachal Foundation (GAF) has alleged that the state government under Chief Minister Pema Khandu is sowing seeds of communal division which might prove detrimental for the state in the years to come.
"The Chief Minister should understand that Arunachal has a secular, democratic system of society and not a theocratic one", stated the GAF in a release.
While the GAF maintained that it was not against any particular religion, it questioned the government about its decision to create 100 posts for Bodhi language teachers which in reality will only help one particularly religious group which is Buddhist.
"At present, Arunachal requires over 3000 teachers in government educational institutions. The state government must also be aware that many Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers are awaiting their regularisation. To top it all, most of them do not get their salaries on time. In such a circumstance there is every reason to believe that the state government is playing a communal card for electoral gains," stated GAF.
It also expressed surprise on the silence of intervening groups, unions and organisations like All Arunachal Teachers' Association, All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union, etc.
Further, it claimed that "It is in everyone's knowledge that NGOs functioning in Arunachal Pradesh for the welfare of the Tibetan refugees are being funded by the World Bank and the central government, in addition to 10 percent of the NGOs budget being pumped out from the state exchequer. In such a situation, it is in bad taste for the state if the decision makers favour and lean towards any particular belief or group of individuals."

AKKDSU appeals for early release of compensation
ITANAGAR, Aug 30: The All Kurung Kumey District Students' Union (AKKDSU), in a representation, appealed to the Kurung Kumey Deputy Commissioner to do the needful for early release of compensation to the highway affected people to pave way for early construction of the Trans Arunachal Highway (TAH) within the district.
The AKKDSU appealed to the Deputy Commissioner to pass necessary and strict directive to the District Land Revenue and Settlement Officer to release the compensation bills of the TAH project and also direct the tender winning firm to expedite the road construction work.
The students' union said that delay in highway construction work in the district has caused immense problem and difficulties to the commuters.
In another representation to the Itanagar Regional Manager of State Bank of India, the Union appealed for immediate posting of sufficient staff at SBI, Branch Koloriang.
The AKKDSU said that the SBI branch had been running without sufficient staff since last two to three years causing great incontinence to the customers, particularly during deposit and withdrawal of money.
Workshop on GST held in Namsai
NAMSAI, Aug 30: A workshop on GST for the DDOs and traders was organized at Namsai Town Club on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Commissioner R K Sharma said that GST brings a new era in taxation system of the country, which in turn will improve tax revenue and bring complete transparency. He also said that GST will be profitable both for the sellers and consumers.
He further said as GST is new concept, such workshops will immensely help both the DDOs and traders or local suppliers.
Under GST, tax will be calculated in a single platform and local entrepreneurs will be benefited, he said.
Emphasising on GST registration,Sharma requested all the local businessmen to register their firms immediately.

DM regulates selling of alcohol during Solung festival
PASIGHAT, Aug 30: In view of the ensuing Solung Festival Celebration 2017 and for ensuring peaceful celebration, East Siang District Magistrate, Tamiyo Tatak has issued an executive order under section 133 CrPC, prohibiting illegal and unauthorized selling of alcohol.
Accordingly, IMFL, locally brewed rice beer (Apong/Nyogin) or roxy etc in open places, roadsides or festival grounds will not be allowed.
Only those who have been authorized and permitted by various Solung celebration committees in the district in their respective festival celebrations grounds within a strict regulated time of 10 PM will be allowed to sell such items.
Further, gambling of any kind,including dice, playing cards or carom in open public places, including festival celebration grounds within entire jurisdiction of East Siang district is strictly prohibited.
The order will be effective from 5 AM of August 31 to 10 PM of September 10.

PASIGHAT, Aug 30: The 39th West Pasighat Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) Mandal unit has launched Bharat Jodo Abhiyaan during its executive meeting held at Ngopok village under Mebo circle in East Siang district on Wednesday.
Launching the Abhiyaan, East Siang District BJYM President, Mongol Taga highlighted the importance of central government schemes, like PDMY,PMSSY, APY, PMFBY and PMGSY and called upon the villagers to avail the benefits of the schemes.

The teachers were imparted basic knowledge and procedures of vision screening to identify children with eye disorders during the workshop held at Abotani Academy, Yazali.

Follow the law of the land
Dear Editor,
With reference to the news headline "three forcibly attempt to enter without ILP" in the 29 August 2017 issue, I would like to ask the anti nationals not adhering to the laws of land whether it is very difficult to acquire a temporary ILP when leaders like Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi entered into Arunachal with valid ILP?
Sometimes, I fail to understand why some self styled people boasting of heading xyz organizations try to do things breaking the law whereas they ought to be role models for the new generation.
Also it is pertinent to mention and appeal to the corrupt officers that if you can't perform your duty then, atleast let the sincere officials performing their duty do it.
This attitude of some corrupt officers remind me of a similar dialogue in the election campaigns but in a different tone " Na kam karunga or na karne bhi dunga'".
Instead of supporting the sincere officials, discouraging and making them to apologize in front of law breaking anti nationals will surely send a wrong message to the officials of Police department. God forbids those days when officials would think several times before doing their duty as he might be asked to apologize publicly later for discharging his duty.
